Also, let’s be fair, Jesse Plemons has recently (in the last five years) lost a lot of weight.
I think there’s a way you can respectfully borrow AAVE and/or other cool terms that are invented in various marginalized cultures, also. Perhaps simply by calling out the fact that you didn’t invent it, that you are using something from one place or another. I’m not sure. Just straight up “Elvis Prelsey”ing them— no. We don’t do that here. But like, acknowledging the brilliance, and paying people for their work, or something like that? I dunno. Maybe. :D
As for your second thought, I’m of two minds on the borrowing slang thing.
My linguistic mind says that’s the nature of language morphology. There is no true “standard”, the people are the arbiters what language will become and most often it’s the marginalized with our various pidgins, patois, dialects and sociolects (like AAVE). The youth are pretty strong arbiters of language too. And I’ll bet languages hate to see a 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 coming their way😂 Just look at the word “bling”. It went from the streets of the American South➡️radio airwaves➡️young people’s vocabulary➡️broadcast news anchors saying it➡️the Oxford English Dictionary. It’s barely recognized as slang anymore. That’s the linguistic Circle of Life.
My social brain bristles at the way outsiders of all races (I’m looking at you, K-Pop) will adopt our slang (and other cool stuff we do) while shunning and excluding us as a people. I’m friends with a lot of people of various ethnic groups + races, so I’m not trying to police every little thing they like and want to use. Like you said, there’s a contextual balance of respect that is tricky to define because we’re all human beings so it’ll vary based on the people, relationship dynamics, locations, whether or not mercury is on its period, cracks in Sasha Obama’s sundial and whether or not Biff gets his hands on Gray’s Sports Almanac from 2015.
There are many factors, but I think honing our situational awareness and operating from a place of kindness and empathy is key.
To add context (and hopefully commute my self-imposed sentence in Shame Jail), they started calling him that back in his Fargo era when you knew his face but not his name; only that he resembles Matt Damon. I was content with Great Value™️ Matt Damon, but once someone said Fat Damon all couth went to hell😭
If it helps, when Corey Hawkins was cast as the lead for 24: Legacy, we immediately went with Black Bauer, eventually landing on Benedict Cumberblack😂😂😂😂
And with that I think I just tanked my parole hearing. Dammit!!🤦🏽♀️
DANG IT!!!! I wrote a veery long and very clever (you'll have to take my word for it because it ranged widely) reply and then accidentally deleted it by accidentally clicking "back" button or something. And now my heart is too broken to recreate it. SIGH.
RENDING OF CLOTHING HAS BEGUN....
I'll wrap and sum it up by saying yeah, "punch up, never down, be loving and kind and always try to not be a jerk (Will Wheaton has a better term)" and (really) apologize if you mess up.
I'm also still laughing at the image I get of a YOUTH with a bedazzler "Bling"ing up the language. The OED, now with more Rhinestones, that I get in my head here.
If you make me a shirt that says I Can Help With That it must have been bedazzled or I won't even look at it.
I hope that people read how awesome my friends' comments are and think highly of me for it! #haloeffect

I agree, on both thoughts:

Beautifully said. Dazzlingly, even.
Ok I’m sorry. Please don’t block me.🫢
Fine, but you have just given me free rein (and reign) to make shitty jokes whenever I want.
Y'know, like I always do anyway.
Oh believe me, it would be the sparkliest shirt ever made.
LOL, yes, but he's still puffier than Matt Damon.
Thank you for your suggestions. You are proving my point that your t-shirt should say, "I can help!"
